Other Guitar Hero Files

There are two file types unique to Guitar Hero that provide nearly all the functionality of Guitar Hero. If you've taken a look around the Guitar Hero archive (either in GHEx or another program), you've found files with a ".dtb" file extension. These files contain every setting of the Guitar Hero engine, as well as every piece of text you see displayed on the game. However, for your and our purposes, a .dtb file is about as useful as having power doors on the fridge. The .dtb file is an encrypted file. It needs to be decrypted into a file that's been commonly know as a .dta file. Once in the .dta file format, the file is available for editing. Common files that are edited are the songs.dtb and the locale.dtb file. Songs.dtb contains the name of the songs (so you would edit that file if you want to change the set list names), and locale.dtb holds a majority of the displayed text in the game. Now, Nachyoz has created a program that decrypts the .dtb file, and allows you to easily edit them. Nachyoz's tools are available here. To edit the songs.dtb (the most popular .dtb to edit), download the tools from above and use the Name Editor. A tutorial how to do this can be found here.

To edit any other .dtb, use the tools from the link above. Common links regarding .dtb files include:

List of common questions regarding .DTB files:
  1. Can I change the order of the songs in game?

  2. This is done by changing the order of the nodes in campaign.dtb for set list songs. For bonus songs, change the order of the nodes in store.dtb. Keep in mind that changing the order of nodes in locale.dtb or songs.dtb will have no effect on the order. -Malictus
